In September 2002, with the efforts of the HHS Foundation, the Dominican Republic government finished building a school for the children in the Conucos in Dominican Republic, including computers that the HHS Foundation will bring to the school.
In April of 2000, the HHS Foundation vaccinated, free of charge, the children and pregnant women in the rural town of Los Conuco, located in the town of Juan Dolio in Santo Domingo. The vaccines were donated by the Board of Health of the Dominican Republic and services were administered by doctors and nurses who volunteered their services.
Through the kind generosity of the Elmjack Little League, Hector is able to store all of the equipment donated to him in a trailor. The trailor was donated to Hector and the HHS Foundation by Frank Dilicia, owner of River Hauling, located in Brooklyn, New York.
On Saturday, June 30th, 2001 in the town of Pedro Brand in Santo Domingo, with the help of Hospitals Padre Billini and Rodolfo de la Cruz Lora, and volunteer doctors, HHS Foundation administered dental and general health to over 300 families, free of charge. Medicine was donated by laboratories in the Dominican Republic and collaborating hospitals. Work was supervised by the Secretary General of the HHS Foundation, Sonia Martinez.
In October of 2001, Hector started a Photography Club in the Beacon at I.S. 141 in Astoria, New York. Through the help of the City of New York and I.S. 141's Beacon Program, Hector and the HHS Foundation help keep kids off the streets and teach them about the Art of Photography, all free of charge. The club is held weekly at I.S. 141 in one of the classrooms.
On May 19th, 2002 the HHS Foundation had their 4th Community Collection Drive for the less fortunate children of the Dominican Republic. Held at the Elmjack Little League in Jackson Heights, New York, dozens of volunteers came out to support the event. Members of Congress, including Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, were in appearance. Other community organizations such as the A.A.C. Clippers Baseball Club and Queens RimRockers Basketball, Inc. assisted Hector with help. This 4th Drive was the most successful according to Hector, who brought dozens of packed boxes down to the Dominican Republic with him. On his visit, he also was accompanied by numerous college students from around the country who were willing to help out the HHS Foundation in this great visit.
In February 2003, the HHS Foundation conducted their 5th Community Collection Drive at Elmjack Little League.
In February 2004, a special thanks went out to the office of the Major of New York, Michael Bloomberg, for the donation of computers for our soon to be built educational center in the Dominican Republic.
In November 2002, the HHS Foundation along with the National Tree Trust (based in Washington, D.C.) , created living memorials in memory of the 265 victims of American Airlines Flight 587, which were headed to the Dominican Republic on November 12th, 2001.The two memorials, one in Astoria, New York and one in Bani, Dominican Republic, are public landmarks for our future generations. The New York memorial took place on November 9th, 2002 and the Dominican Republic memorial took place on November 12th, 2002.
History of the HHS Foundation:
On June 27th, 2003, HHS Foundation invited families, friends, and organizations of moral support to the inauguration of the memorial park. This park, located in Bani, Dominican Republic, is in memory of the 265 loved ones lost on November 12th, 2001 in Belle Harbor, New York on Flight 587.
